Follow the newly established Tecumseh Parkway which begins at the Historic St. Peter’s Church nestled on the Thames River. The picturesque Thames River winds its way through Chatham-Kent and features over 12 pull-offs where you can read about the fateful journey taken by First Nations and the British as they were chased by the American forces in 1813 during the War of 1812. Trace the steps of the past, leading to the site of the Tecumseh Monument and the site of the Battle of the Thames where the great Chief Tecumseh was killed, the dream of a Native nation was shattered, U.S. presidential dreams were made and a British General’s career was destroyed.
